VOLUNTEER

VOLUNTEER WITH US!

The work of Architects Without Borders Seattle would not be possible without the support of all our amazing volunteers. AWBS is almost entirely volunteer led and run and we celebrate the time and talents of individuals and organizations of all backgrounds to achieve our mission.

While “architects” would appear to be our focus for volunteers, we are a community of landscape architects, engineers, planners, community builders, event planners, fundraisers, social media experts, website designers, administrative gurus, friends and family, as well as architects. In other words, that means YOU. If you are interested in our mission, there is likely a great way for you to get involved.

For volunteers who are architectural license candidates, the Architectural Experience Program (AXP), administered by NCARB, is a requirement in most jurisdictions for professional licensure. AWBS is an NCARB pre-approved Community-Based Design Center opportunity - When volunteering at AWBS you may earn up to 320 AXP hours for your volunteer service.

Please note, we are keeping our community safe and in the short term, to follow COVID-19 health protocols, we are not offering in-person volunteer intake sessions and meetings. Please do complete steps one, two, and three below in order to stay informed about volunteer opportunities!

VOLUNTEERS SPOTLIGHT

Valentina Maidana

I just moved to Seattle from Mexico, graduated with an Architecture degree. I was looking for a place where I can practice my passion and at the same time help this city that is my new home. Architects Without Borders Seattle, has been a great place for me to continue to learn and adapt to the architecture and methods of this country. I have met a lot of professional and amazing people that are interested in helping me grow as an architect, and as a person. I'm proud of being part of this process that allows positive change to happen, serving our skills to the people.

OPERATIONS AND VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR

I am an Argentinean architect based in Freetown, Sierra Leone. About a year ago, I moved here to experience the local culture first-hand and actively contribute to positive change. Volunteering with AWBS to develop the Wai sustainable women’s health clinic in the south of Sierra Leone has been an incredibly fulfilling experience for me. I found an opportunity to contribute with my skills and knowledge to make a greater impact. I am proud to be part of this process that improves people’s lives and contributes to a greener future by supporting sustainable practices.
