Architects Without Borders Seattle provides free services for community-serving organizations and communities that would otherwise not have access to architectural services. If you would like project support, apply for assistance using the button below.

You may request architectural services throughout the year, though review of project requests by AWBS is done on a quarterly basis.

Upon receipt of your request, AWBS will learn more about your organization and the community you serve, your potential project, and the services that you need. We refer to the process of researching and reviewing your potential project as “vetting” the project.

Note that AWBS may be able to help with your existing building or facility. For example, if you are interested in improving the accommodation for physical disabilities, space planning, or operational efficiency of your current building, apply for assistance and we can determine how best to facilitate advancement of your desired improvements.

OUR MISSION

  • When will I hear from Architects Without Borders Seattle about the status of my request?
A member of AWBS will follow-up with with you by email to let you know that we have received your request, usually within two weeks. It may be a few months before your request is reviewed. Project requests are reviewed in quarterly intervals each year. In coordination with our follow-up to your request, you should plan to support by responding to your project “vetters” for a few months. If you have a question about the status of your request, contact us at info@awb-seattle.org or Stephen@awb-seattle.org.
  • What does it mean to have our project vetted?
We want to make sure our organization is a good fit with your project vision, so we assign a volunteer to do more research on your organization and project before making any decisions. Usually this means we will send you follow up questions by email and try to schedule a phone call or Zoom call with you so that we can learn more about your organization and project. You can help keep this process moving by quickly responding back to our follow up questions!
  • Can we get a grant from Architects Without Borders-Seattle for our project?
No, we do not provide direct grants or donations to projects. However, we do fundraise to send our volunteer project leads to visit your project site at least once during the design process.
  • Will Architects Without Borders-Seattle help with project construction?
We usually do not help with project construction, although there are some exceptions. If it is a local, Pacific Northwest project, we are sometimes available to gather volunteers to help implement designs. We cannot help with construction on international projects.
