DOES YOUR COMMUNITY NEED
Architects Without Borders Seattle provides free services for communities in the Puget Sound area and around the world that would otherwise not have access to design services. If you would like design support, apply for design assistance at the button below.
Communities or organizations in need can request support for design services throughout the year. Project requests are reviewed TWICE a year.
In order to provide the best possible service, AWBS volunteers will learn more about your community or organization, potential project, and the design services you need. We refer to the process of researching and reviewing your potential project as 'vetting' the potential project.
Deadlines for project request consideration are August 27, 2021 and February 25, 2022.
If your project request is received by August 27th, 2021, your request will be vetted and you will be informed whether your request has been accepted as an AWBS project by January 31, 2022.
If your project request is received after August 27, 2021, it will be vetted in the next cycle, which means a volunteer will be assigned to research your request after the February 25, 2022 request deadline has passed. Organizations making project requests vetted in the February 2022 cycle will be informed whether their request has been accepted as an AWBS project by July 31, 2022.
Frequently asked questions
When will I hear from Architects Without Borders Seattle about the status of my request?
A member of our organization will follow up with you by email to let you know we've received your request, usually within two weeks. It may be a few months before your request is reviewed. Project requests are reviewed in two cycles each year. Once the project request deadline has passed (August 27, 2021 or February 25, 2022) a volunteer vetter will reach out to you to learn more about your potential project. You should plan to support your project request by responding to volunteer vetters for a few months.
What does it mean to have our project vetted?
We want to make sure our organization is a good fit with your project vision, so we assign a volunteer to do more research on your organization and project before making any decisions. Usually this means we will send you follow up questions by email and try to schedule a phone call or Skype call with you so that we can learn more about your organization and project. You can help keep this process moving by quickly responding back to our follow up questions!
Can we get a grant from Architects Without Borders-Seattle for our project?
No, we do not provide direct grants or donations to projects. However, we do fundraise to send our volunteer project leads to visit your project site at least once during the design process.
Will Architects Without Borders-Seattle help with project construction?
We usually do not help with project construction, although there are some exceptions. If it is a local, Pacific Northwest project, we are sometimes available to gather volunteers to help implement designs. We cannot help with construction on international projects.
