ABOUT THIS PROJECT

Architects Without Borders is planning and designing a new college campus situated in a desert environment in Iraq. This will be a sustainably designed school campus for the Sinjar Academy. The project includes concepts for sewage disposal, HVAC systems, and landscape with the focus on sustainable and practical solutions tailored to this unique location and needs.

The Sinjar region and surrounding areas in northern Iraq are the homelands of Yazidis and other religious and ethnic minorities who continue to face existential challenges in the aftermath of the ISIS genocidal campaign. This project will help these communities recover socioeconomically through quality education, focusing mainly on college level STEM disciplines.

The first phase, which broke ground in 2026, is the construction of a new administration
building.
