JOYLAND PRIME ACADEMY

ABOUT THIS PROJECT

The Joyland Prime Academy was founded in 2008 with the mission to provide free education to vulnerable children in the region and to help move people out of poverty. The client, founder Jonathan Munyany, requested support to design a new facility for their growing school which sometimes includes up to 500 children. The project is a design for a new educational building for primary school age children, based on the typical classroom module of 14’x18’ which allows flexibility for construction material and program/use type so that each room can be utilized as the school evolves.

There will be accommodations for staff room, a library, computer room, toilets, showers, a kitchen and an overnight stay area.  The new building attempts to reconcile the existing site and buildings to allow two large courtyards for play and learning programs and allow existing buildings to remain for future expansion. The enclosure and roof are all envisioned to provide protection from the elements but also to facilitate natural ventilation and rain water capture onsite.
