ABOUT THIS PROJECT

The welcoming center is a facility that will
support infants and children in distress. The
clinic for 20+ infants help them to recover
from pervasive disease, malnutrition and
transition back to families or foster care. The
complex includes consultation rooms, offices,
a dining area, dormitories for various ages
and private apartments for the guardians of
the sick children. Passive cooling was the
priority for interior spaces and is facilitated by
perforations in the module wall, as well as
barrel vaulted ceilings with air outlets. The
large overhanging shed roofs, lifted off of
brick modules by steel frames, complement
the vaulted ceilings, shading the module
masses from the midday sun. Locally available materials have been used to create a prototype for a brick for future construction.

Regional instability and client considerations have put construction on hold. AWBS continues to track potential future collaboration and support for this project for the care provider who is currently using rented space for their work.
