ABOUT THIS PROJECT

In fall of 2006, just after Hurricane Katrina hit landfall, Architects Without Borders-Seattle teamed with the Disaster Preparedness and Response committee at the American Institute of Architects Seattle Chapter to lend a hand in emergency response.

Three groups, a total of 11 volunteer architects, interns and a contractor, assisted both the State of Mississippi Bureau of Buildings and AIA Mississippi in assessing public owned facilities, residences and small businesses for building damage. These individuals were specially trained in assessing building damage related to wind and water intrusion.

While these groups devoted a week or more of their time, funding and resources were generously provided by the local architecture community, Puget Sound Energy, Southwest Airlines, and the volunteers themselves.
